  8. Service Description
  9. Hewlett-Packard provides technical expertise and project management to
  10. assist you in implementing your computing environment. HP's
  11. comprehensive set of capabilities ranges from the physical preparation
  12. of the computing site and the equipment, to the installation and
  13. configuration of hardware, software, and networks.
  14.    HP's startup service helps get computing environments up and running
  15. quickly by coordinating the installation, configuration, and testing of
  16. systems, devices, and networks. HP brings a new system or network on
  17. line or adds new connections to an existing network, scaling the
  18. solution to fit your system and network requirements.
  19.
  20. Benefits to You
  21. o Timely and coordinated implementation
  22. o Quality installation and configuration of systems and networking
  23.    components

  42. -------                        -----------------------
  43. Single-vendor coordination     HP works with you to develop a complete
  44.  of implementation             startup schedule that outlines
  45.  activities                    installation tasks and resources, both
  46.                                within and across user sites. HP helps
  47.                                identify all implementation activities,
  48.                                a time frame for each startup activity,
  49.                                and the responsible party--HP, your
  50.                                staff, or other vendors. The schedule
  51.                                also identifies critical path activities
  52.                                and contingency plans, when appropriate.
  53.
  54. System installation            Startup service provides installation
  55.  and configuration             and configuration of hardware, software,
  56.                                and network devices when the product
  57.                                purchase price does not include these
  58.                                services. During system installation, HP
  59.                                performs the following tasks:
  60.
  61.                              o Supervise the uncrating, positioning,
  62.                                and racking of products.
  63.                              o Inventory the shipment against the
  64.                                packing list(s).
  65.                              o Interconnect the products.
  66.                              o Check the primary power line voltage.
  67.                              o Execute initialization procedures.
  68.                              o Perform electronic and mechanical
  69.                                adjustments as required.
  70.                              o Perform any necessary repairs to make
  71.                                warranty-covered products operational.
  72.                              o Execute standard HP diagnostic or
  73.                                verification programs and tests.
  74.                              o Instruct operators on daily care and
  75.                                proper use of the products.
  76.
  77.                                For large implementations with redundant
  78.                                hardware and software configurations, HP
  79.                                can provide system staging. HP
  80.                                consolidates and assembles equipment
  81.                                hardware and software in one of HP's
  82.                                integration centers, then configures and
  83.                                fully tests prior to shipment.
  84.
  85. Network configuration          HP goes beyond standard configurations
  86.                                and verification tests to provide a
  87.                                customized network implementation
  88.                                solution. HP works with your staff and
  89.                                other vendors to jointly determine
  90.                                configuration parameters for each newly
  91.                                installed component to meet your network
  92.                                specifications.
  93.
  94.                                A complete, implementable network design
  95.                                must be made available to HP before
  96.                                startup service begins. The design
  97.                                document must include:
  98.
  99.                              o The physical network map with
  100.                                communication links identified
  101.                              o A description of all network hardware
  102.                                and software
  103.                              o A description of the applications
  104.                                utilizing the network
  105.
  106.                                HP can provide assistance in developing
  107.                                the network design through our network
  108.                                planning and design service.
  109.
  110.                                If you purchase startup service to add
  111.                                nodes to a network, HP works with your
  112.                                staff to determine the impact on the
  113.                                existing network components.
  114.
  115.                                HP's network configuration ensures
  116.                                connectivity and operational
  117.                                functionality up to layer 3 and layer 4
  118.                                of the Open Systems Interconnect (OSI)
  119.                                model. HP can provide further assistance
  120.                                in implementation beyond the
  121.                                specifications of this service.
  122.
  123. Verification                   After completing the installation and
  124.                                configuration activities, HP uses
  125.                                standard tests to verify that all major
  126.                                connections involved in the startup
  127.                                communicate properly. HP diagnoses any
  128.                                operational problems and works with your
  129.                                staff until all connections implemented
  130.                                with startup service are functional.
  131.
  132. Documentation                  Accurate documentation is critical for
  133.                                successful management and operation of a
  134.                                network. HP provides you with a complete
  135.                                set of system and network support
  136.                                documentation upon completion of the
  137.                                installation and verification process.
  138.
  139. Additional Information
